Samui Sunset Pavilions Luxury Villa
Koh Samui
Koh Samui, sometimes spelled Ko Samui or simply referred to as Samui, is the third largest island in Thailand, a tropical paradise, located within the saphire blue, warm, waters of the Gulf of Siam off the south east coast.
Covered in coconut plantations and tropical rain forest, surrounded by beautifully soft, sandy beaches, Samui is easily reached by direct, non stop, flights from Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, with domestic flights also available from/to Phuket, Pattaya and Krabi. Etihad operate a codeshare service from Brisbane, Australia to Samui via Singapore, shaving two hours off the journey. Phuket in particular has a suprising amount of international connections and is only a short hop away from Samui, or take a three hour drive and catch the ferry!
The island has evolved in recent years to become one of the regions foremost high end family tourist destinations, with good infrastructure, international medical facilities, a wealth of fine dining and a very busy social calender, including The International Sailing Regatta, International Golf tournaments and the Jazz festival-plus the villa rental destination of choice.
Although most visitors arrive by air to Koh Samui airport, the island is also easily accessed from Bangkok by road and rail, with a regular ferry service from Surat Thani on the mainland. The mainland Surat Thani Airport is also another option. From the moment you catch a glimpse of the islands picturesque, tropical, airport you will realise that this is no ordinary holiday destination, but it may be the beginning of an ongoing love affair, as this laid back, tropical paradise casts its magic spell. If you have previously visited Samui you will not need any explanation about the magic, but for those who have not been please take a few minutes to watch this Samui Promo video. Climate and weather
In general terms it is always summer in Samui, always warm, but there are three climate seasons, with the island rarely experiencing the monsoons so common in other parts of Thailand. Cooler - for Samui - October to January, Hotter - February to May and less hot - June through September. Mid December to May is the main tourist season, substantially dry with temperatures around 30C and brief tropical showers. July and August are also considered to be high season and often produce the least rainfall of the summer. Samui does not have a monsoon season, but late October, November and early December experience the most prolonged tropical showers, with November usually being the wettest. Just remember, Samui is Tropical, so the above generalisations can easily be turned upside down! Some very informative historical and current weather data can be found on the following links to Weather On Line and Weather Underground. Water Temperature remains a very comfortable 28-34 C all year round.
